NORDIC COURSE in Virtual Dermatopathology (VDP)

Welcome              General information               Programme                   Registration

WELCOME

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the second Nordic Course in Virtual Dermatopathology, which will take place 26-27 April 2018, in Reykjavik, Iceland.

This course is directed towards trainees and specialists in dermatology, pathology and dermatopathology in the Nordic region and the focus is on clinico-pathologic correlation using virtual slides.

“Virtual microscopy”, or whole slide imaging, is the software-assisted manipulation of high-definition digital images of tissue sections, to simulate the experience of examining glass slides under a standard optical microscope. Magnifications of up to × 40 can  be achieved.

Since computers are readily available in educational institutions and less expensive than microscopes, it is possible to provide residents with access to slides from rare cases and without the risk of breaking valuable glass slides. In addition, all participants can view the same slide, ensuring their benefit from exposure to the same details, see http://vdpmaterial.nivdp.com/dsb/webViewer.php?snapshotId=1385997412. Using this software, which is accessible on a lap-top with Flash Player, it is possible to incorporate clinical information, clinical photographs and handouts. Therefore, it is quite useful for independent study (e-learning) in clinico-pathologic correlation and the software can provide instant real-time feedback, allowing participants to assess their own performance in the self-assessment exam.

The goal of this course is to provide the participants with the background to use virtual dermatopathology and related software in clinico-pathologic correlation, in-training examinations, consultations and CME programs, as well as utilizing this technique as an educational tool in training medical students and post graduates.

You can find more information about the programme here.

We look forward to welcoming you in Iceland, one of the most scenic countries in Northern Europe.
